Sir Winston Churchill
Churchill's Britain Foundation
“The future of the world is to the highly-educated races…” – Winston S. Churchill
Jonathan began speaking on the subject of his great-grandfather’s life in 2006. The success and overwhelmingly positive response to the Churchill Lecture series prompted Jonathan to look deeper into the educational needs of students not just in the United States, but also in Jonathan’s home country, England.
“Education has taken a back-seat in the priorities of successive governments.” Jonathan says, “I myself was a product of the British Education System and I feel, in comparison to today’s curriculum, things have got worse. It’s no good taking a student from one exam to another, or teaching them one fact and then another, we need to know why and how things have happened. We need to understand the history as much as we need to know the facts.”
In consulting with professionals, educators and students, Jonathan designed the Churchill Lectures to compliment the other activities of Churchill’s Britain Foundation and also ensure that the information given was of the most relevance. Winston Churchill warned of nations forgetting their past and the fate they would face.
“If education were food, history would be water.”
The Churchill Lecture Series offers a practical demonstration of the truth that history repeats itself. Using the most up to date and relevant information, Jonathan uniquely tailor-makes every lecture to suit both educational and non-educational institutes. Using the model of his great-grandfather, his life and times, Jonathan draws a historical map that takes one from 1874, (the year of Sir Winston Churchill’s birth), back, forth and beyond, clearly proving the relevance and importance of historical knowledge.
